Based on her observation of shadows reflected in the earth, the artist spent many weeks perfecting the technique used that allows objects to be represented in two dimensions onto canvas. The subject has been transformed into it's own representation with the canvas taking an interpretation by the artist. This is especially effective when working with living things or items that are perishable such as fruits or people. Alexa's style of painting is very ephemeral. Only the images of her work are preserved. The painting and the photographic techniques are so closely coordinated that the end result is an unflat, 2-dimensional space, which achieves trompe l'oeil. The third dimension is only visible in specific areas, such as near the eyes or hair. Meade is also able to integrate her models painted by Meade into the 3D space that surrounds the models. The interaction between them as well as the world they created can be achieved. The result is a blurring of the lines between painting, photography and installation.
