
Lee was born Thomas Lee Bass on October 3rd, 1962 in Athens, Greece, to father David Lee Thomas Bass, an American U.S. Army sergeant and mother Vassiliki "Voula" Papadimitriou (Greek: Basilike Papademetriou), who was a contestant in the 1957 Miss Greece beauty contest. Athena is his older sister. She is also a drummer. Lee was just two years old when his dad moved his family to California. He also got his first drumsticks at the age of four and his first real drum set when he was sixteen. In order to pursue a career as a musician, he dropped out of high school and joined the L.A. nightclub band Suite 19. He listened to Van Halen, Led Zeppelin and Cheap Trick when he was a teenager. John Bonham and Tommy Aldridge were his most significant drumming influences.
